Star Micronics’ SM-S220i Pairs with Appetize Application

appetize    SM-S220i whats hot

Star Micronics America, a leading worldwide manufacturer of point of sales printers, recently announced support of the  SM-S220i Bluetooth  by the Appetize app. Appetize is an iPhone® and Android™ based mobile app that allows fans at entertainment venues to purchase food, drinks, and merchandise from the comfort of their seats.

Launched in 2012, Appetize has been in service in California and New York for major events including The Black Keys, Carrie Underwood, LMFAO, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Kelly Clarkson and the Los Angeles Lakers. Fans can easily enter their order and pay from their mobile device, and the order will be delivered to their seats.

The Appetize app will pair with the SM-S220i to print receipts, which contain pertinent product delivery information such as seat number, order, total sale, price and contact information. The Bluetooth connection of the SM-S220i allows the Appetize system to print receipts at the venue’s refreshment or souvenir stands without putting greater burden on the already stressed mobile and WiFi networks in the venue. Equipped with a sleek, compact and lightweight design, it is compatible with all operating systems including iOS (iPad®, iPhone®, iPod®) and all Bluetooth devices.

“Star Micronics is extremely excited to have the SM-S220i supported by the Appetize app,” stated Christophe Naasz, Director of Business Development at Star Micronics. “We believe this kind of mobile technology will soon be featured in all entertainment venues and we are happy to be leading the way. The SM-S220i is the ideal mobile printing solution for the hospitality industry.”

Appetize recently implemented the SM-S220i to print customers’ order receipts at the Capitol Theatre in Port Chester, New York. Capitol Theatre is a historic rock music theatre that originally opened in 1926, and played host to the likes of Janis Joplin, Pink Floyd and the Grateful Dead in the early 70’s. After 30 years as a special event and catering hall, Capitol Theatre returned to its roots as a premier concert venue.

“Choosing a printer for the Appetize app was simple when we found the SM-S220i,” stated Kevin Anderson, Business Development at Appetize. “We believe that the Bluetooth printer will allow for increased scalability and deploy-ability as it simplifies the onboarding process. All entertainment venues need to begin receiving mobile orders are an iPad® and printer.”

WiFi Power Pack Featured in Retail Reseller News!

Here is something I am sharing via Retail Reseller News:

Wishing Wireless Upon Your Star

Continuing its push to serve mobility in all its forms, Star Micronics (Edison, NJ) has unveiled its clever Wi-Fi Power Pack accessory, which adds wireless communications to any of the company’s LAN printers. In modular, upgradeable format, Wi-Fi Power Pack encompasses specialized USB adapter from Star and wireless router from TP-Link, running at the common data rate of 150 Mbps. It supports wireless printing of receipts on tablets, smart phones, or similar portable electronic devices on the most economical basis, according to the vendor.

Integration with existing Star printers benefits from Wi-Fi Power Pack’s compact size and consumer-friendly software set-up utility. By powering through the printer’s cash drawer kick, or “DK,” port, cabling gets simplified. “I believe the Wi-Fi Power Pack brings an ideal wireless printing solution for any end-user,” remarked Christophe Naasz, Director of Business Development for Star Micronics America.

Star Micronics also received endorsement for its TSP 100 receipt printer from Zing Checkout (Austin, TX), another of the cloud-based POS ISVs. As the preferred printer for Zing, the TSP 100 supports iPad, PC, or Mac, and allows customized images, logos, and barcodes.
