Since its launch in 2007, clients such as KCD, Bismarck Phillips, Donna Karan and Dior have used the system to coordinate hundreds of fashion shows around the world. In 2010, Fashion GPS partnered with IMG Fashion to lend its events management technology to Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week’s inaugural season at Lincoln Center.
In 2010 IMG Fashion, producers of America’s largest industry fashion event moved New York Fashion Week from Bryant Park to Lincoln Center. In light of the move, IMG Fashion partnered with Fashion GPS to design and implement new technological solutions to provide a streamlined virtual experience and bring behind-the-scenes logistics boldly into the twenty first century. Long lines and security loopholes, elaborate RSVP processes, cumbersome paper seating charts and clipboards rapidly became a thing of the past owing to the comprehensive digital infrastructure furnished by Fashion GPS. “This is a seismic shift in the way that fashion weeks around the world will operate,” said Peter Levy, Former Senior Vice President and Managing Director of IMG Fashion Worldwide. “The level of service this brings to the industry— from data capture for designers on our website to event credentials being used to get seat assignments for press and retailers — will revolutionize the industry standard and be what people come to expect in the years to come.”
From barcoded invitations, web-based seating charts, and digital check-in terminals, Fashion GPS offered high-tech solutions on the essentials to eliminate problems that plagued prior fashion weeks. The goal was to strip away tedious and outdated methods wherever possible, replacing them with unobtrusive digital alternatives without compromising the integrity of such an iconic event. Guests using the new system received electronic invitations with unique barcodes and were able to RSVP to shows with a click of the mouse. At the venue, airport-style self-service kiosks with barcode readers enabled guests to scan their invitations or mobile devices to retrieve their seat assignments. A three-tier check-in process streamlined traffic flow, reduced bottlenecks and kept gatecrashers at bay.
An updated press credentialing process reliant on barcodes and real-time data feeds were also deployed in conjunction with technology consulting firm Control Group. Custom tailored to suit the needs of designers exhibiting at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week, the Fashion GPS system allowed designers and their PR firms to send electronic invitations, monitor RSVPs, digitally seat invitees, access up-to-the-minute arrival information and fill empty seats with just a few key strokes.
The TSP743IIU printers were deployed in several capacities to move Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week from the Stone Age to the Digital Age. First, creating an e-check in method for event credential holders. The credential holders are journalists and
buyers who attend the entire eight days worth of shows. Fashion GPS used the TSP743IIU printers integrated with a self-service kiosk where credential holders could scan their event credentials to print out their show seating assignments for the day. Since some attendees go to 5-8 shows per day (over eight days), this increased their check-in efficiency by over 500% percent in some cases, allowing them to forego the main check in counter where hundreds of guests gather, use the self-service kiosk and go straight into the show to see the runway collection. The second deployment of the TSP743IIU printers was at the PR check-in desks. As an option to those guests not as comfortable with the self-service kiosks or without seating assignments, just like at the airport, there was an option to go straight to a LIVE person. These live people were equipped with MAC minis and TSP743IIU printers so that the designers’ Public Relations teams could manually check in a guest through the computer check-in portal developed by Fashion GPS, print out their seating assignment and allow them to go directly into the show.
GPS Events is a powerful web based invitation, scheduling and seating system designed to streamline fashion shows and events from start to finish. GPS Events offers more efficient digital alternatives for the essentials: dynamic seating charts that update in real time, digital clipboards, web-based RSVPs and barcoded
invitations/seating assignments for quick entry.
Star’s TSP743IIU is the best single station printer you can expect. The TSP743IIU features a double resolution mode which increases sharpness to any graphic! Eye catching graphics for company logos and/or graphics are a print away. Its sleek design features a cover which extends to the edge of the printer making it more difficult for dust and liquids to penetrate and harm the printer. In addition to the extended cover, sound and vibration dampening channels within the printer help reduce printing noise and also add an extra layer of protection from moisture or dust when used in harsher environments.
The TSP743IIU printers allow Fashion GPS to provide its clients with a quick and efficient way to handle guest management at one of the most high profile fashion industry events worldwide. The ease of the product ensures that there are no glitches or jams during “rush hour.” Paired with the Fashion GPS technology
systems, the new digital infrastructure has cut down the workload by 50% if not more, with many happy customers signing up worldwide.
