Thanks for the question.

Star Micronics does have a range of IP (Ethernet capable) POS printers which support either a static or dynamic IP address.

Technically these could be connected in such a way as to allow remote printing via an internet connection

However, please be aware that the printer has limited security.. and does not have a firewall.

It does have The ability to block by password access to the configuration ( normally accessed by telnet or by a web browser)

But
It cannot block access from a specific person or IP address
It has a FTP port which potentially exposes some risk
It will accept any data from anyone on port 9100

So Yes its technically possible to connect a Star printer directly to the internet and you will be able to print to it.. however I strongly suggest you have an addition piece of hardware providing a firewall to control access.

(Some high end routers may be able to provide this function for you.)

Hello,

I am interested in purchasing a few printers - but I am trying to purchase a printer that would allow me to print remotely (via the internet).

Please note: I am a web developer / computer programmer.

Can you please out line the specifications / requirements for having an internet connected printer which prints remotely.

For example, do I need a STATIC IP address?

If not, how can I consistently print to this printer?

Also, can I restrict printing access to 1 or 2 source IP's?

Additionally, can I add an extra level of security by having a shared secret programmed into the printer (meaning my application & the printer know the secret - but no one else)?
